Joining the faculty in fall, 2001, Dr. Douglas W. Larche, Theatre on the Bay's Artistic Director and Playwright-in-Residence brings strong credentials in both speech and theatre to the UW-Marinette campus.

He earned an M.Ed. in Speech Education from Wichita State University, a Ph.D. in speech communication from Indiana University, has authored a textbook and published widely in that field. He also holds an MFA in Theatre from the University of Iowa and has done post-doctoral study in Playwriting and Directing at Yale, Harvard and Oxford Universities. He has written over forty plays, all produced, many published, and has won national awards for playwriting. The artistic director of nearly 200 productions and 40 film projects, he has also won an Equity Award for his Father Gander Nursery Rhymes.

Larche most recently spent fourteen years as a tenured full professor and chair of the Department of Creative and Performing Arts at Grand View College in Des Moines. In 199 he accepted a position as senior policy advisor and chief speechwriter for the Governor of Iowa, then joined the cabinet as Director of Cultural Affairs and Executive Director of the Iowa Arts Council.

In regard to Dr. Larche's plans for Theatre on the Bay, he says, "I hope to honor and build on the legacy of what has come before- but to be sensitive to the needs of the university and the community and to changes in demographics, the area economy and local arts organizations."

"I am delighted to have been granted the title 'Playwright-in-Residence.' My greatest love is creating and staging new works - both my own and finding and supporting the voices of others. It has been my privilege to mount nearly fifty new plays in my career. I can't see that stopping now."
