STUDENT SENATE FAQ

What is the Student Senate?

The Student Senate is elected by the student body. Elections occur in the fall during the third week of classes. The Senate controls how segregated fees are spent, and represents students on the Collegium (the campus governing body) and various University committees.

To be placed on the ballot, nominating papers must be filed with a number of supporting signatures. Nomination forms are kept in the Office of Student Services. Forms are due back by noon the day before the elections.

Elected positions are: Executive Committee Senators (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer & Public Relations Officer) and approximately 8 - 14 Senators depending on the student population.

The Executive committee meets every week. The Student Senate, as a whole, also meets every week. For more information, contact any Senate member at mntstugv@uwc.edu

The Student Senate office is Room 162 in the Main Building, 735-4334. Or contact the Student Services Coordinator, Jennifer Hass , 735-4303, advisor to the Student Senate.

What if I don't have that much time?

Volunteer for a Student Senate committee. The Student Senate names student representative to all campus governance committees, where you can learn a lot by working together with faculty and staff members. If you might like to serve on a committee, stop to see the Student Senate president after the election.

What are the benefits?

You will develop life and career skills, contribute to the campus community, gain new friends, learn how organizations work, and get to know yourself better. You will enhance your resume with real-life experiences, demonstrated responsibility and initiative by working with others in a group setting.
