BUCCANEER ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
UW-Marinette boasts one of the strongest athletic departments among the UW Colleges. Talented coaches and athletes have garnered awards and top results in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference and the Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association in both women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball.
2007-08 Season Results
Congratulations to our Men's and Women's basketball teams on achieving Region II Championships for the 2007-08 season.
Jordan Young of Escanba and Josh Enders of Florence were named to the Region II All-state Team. Chris Meunier was named to the WJCAA All-Tournament Team.
Young averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. As the point guard on the team, Young showed great leadership and an uncanny ability to get to the basket. He is an extremely athletic player who has quickness and great jumping ability. He is a very unselfish player who will find open teammates and set them up for easy baskets. Jordan has unlimited talent. He will continue to grow as a player and could easily be one of the best players in the state among the junior college teams.
Enders averaged 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. His leaping ability and nose for the ball makes Josh an outstanding rebounder. Josh is a very athletic player who can play both ends of the floor. He was often given the toughest defensive assignment. Josh will be one of the top players in the state next season if he continues to work to improve his game. He has the desire and the work ethic to have another outstanding season next year. He is a very good student of the game and is fun to coach.
Meunier was named to the WJCAA All-Tournament team for his performance in the State Semi-final game on February 23rd. Meunier was difficult to stop in that game just like he was for most teams all season. He scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds for the game.
Krystal Shutte was named to the Region II All-state Team and Ashley Litts was named to the All-state Tournament Team.
Shutte is a former Wabeno High School standout and has worked extremely hard over the summer on her game. She averaged over 15 points per game and led the team in 3 point and free-throw shooting percentages. Krystal hopes to play basketball at UW-Oshkosh while pursuing her Journalism degree.
Litts is from Marinette High School and played basketball during the spring semester for the Lady Bucs. Her contribution was significant as demonstrated by her fine performances in the WJCAA tournament. She scored 28 points in the Region II championship game and 16 points and 13 rebounds in the state semi final game against UW-Fond du lac. Ashley has a Human Biology degree from UWGB and plans to attend UW-Madison to earn a degree in Physical Therapy.

Kim Coble Distinguished Academic All-State
Coble is from Peshtigo High School and played two years on the volleyball team and one year of basketball. Kim’s academic success was easily noticeable on the basketball court displayed largely by her work ethic and commitment to succeed. She is a real team player putting her own goals behind those of the team. Kim will be pursuing a degree in Education at UW-Oshkosh.
Brad Golz Distinguished Academic All-State
Golz was co-captain on the Buccaneers team. He is a two-year starter for UW – Marinette. Golz is a leader on and off the court. His performance in the classroom sets the standard for his teammates to follow. On the floor, Brad was an outstanding shooter, good defender and a hard-nosed rebounder.
Katie Jo Pockat Distinguished Academic All-State
Pockat is from Gillett High School and played both Volleyball and Basketball for two years at UW-Marinette. Katie is a very creative person and loaded with team spirit. You can count on her to always project a positive attitude even during difficult circumstances. She could be counted on for aggressive and inspirational play when the team needed a boost of momentum.
Josh St. Juliana Distinguished Academic All-State
St. Juliana was also co-captain for the Buccaneers. He was a part-time starter as a freshman and earned a starting position as a sophomore. St. Juliana is an outstanding student who works very hard to achieve the goals he sets for himself. Josh is a model student for our younger players to follow. On the court, Josh shot the ball very well, played solid defense and always worked extremely hard for the team.
Bethany Buehrly Academic All-State
Bethany is from Superior Central High School and is a two year starter for the Lady Bucs basketball team with determination and commitment. Her desire to be the best she can be is contagious which prompts you to automatically start cheering for her. She is possibly the most improved player on the team because of her desire to succeed and the high standard she aspires to achiev
The award is given to student-athletes who have completed at least three semesters and 36 credits with a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher. The Distinguished Award goes to those who earn 3.5 or better.
Buccaneer Statistics
- The Buccaneer Men’s basketball team has six straight division championships tying a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference record for consecutive division championships.
- They also have 5 WCC divisional championships - the most in the state.
- They have 2 WCC conference championships - the most in the state (1996 and 1997 teams).
- They have 5 WJCAA Regional championships - the most in the state.
- Women’s volleyball took the WJCAA State Runner-up honors in 2001, the WCC championship in 2002, and WJCAA Region II Championships in 1986, 1990, 2002 & 2006.
- Women’s basketball earned the Region II title in 2001, 2004 and 2006.
- The Women's Volleyball, Women's Basketball and Men's Basketball teams each earned WJCAA Region II titles in 2006.
