Clubs & Organizations

Classroom education is a priority in your career, but your learning experience does not stop there. Making time to become an active part of campus life will help you get the maximum out of your college experience.

Below is a listing of current clubs and organizations and the advisors you can contact to become involved. To begin a new club or organization, contact the Student Services Coordinator Jennifer Hass in the Student Serivces Office at (715) 735-4303.

Most campus groups have organizational meetings in the first few weeks of classes. Watch for advertisements around campus and plan to attend those early meetings. If you can't make it, leave a message for the group with Student Services. They will contact you.

Anthropology and Sociology Club

Plan field trips, meet students with interests in culture and globalization. Contact Professor Dail Murray: L-109, (715) 735-4323.

Art Club

Plan trips to museum and your own exhibits. Contact Professor Jim LaMalfa: T-137, (715) 735-4322.

Athletics

The UW-Marinette Buccaneer athletic program boasts a strong tradition of award-winning teams and coaches. UW-Marinette currently offers the following varsity sports:

  • Women’s volleyball (fall)
  • Men’s basketball (winter)
  • Women's basketball (winter)
  • Coed Soccer (fall and spring)

Audubon Society 

The Chappee Rapids Chapter of the Audubon Society meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7 pm in M-117. They also participate in Earth Day activities and the annual Sandhill Crane Count. Contact Professor Michael Kirby: M-204, (715) 735-4326.

Business Club

This club is for students who want to pursue a career in business or accounting. Find out about internships in the area and learn more about national business organizations. Contact Jennifer Hass: M-126, 735-4303

 

Campus Activities Board

The UW-Marinette Campus Activities Board is responsible for bringing activities and entertainment to the campus from around the country. CAB members attend the National Association of Campus Activities conference to locate entertainment for the campus. Membership is open to all students. Contact Jennifer Hass: M-126, (715) 735-4303.

Community Jazz Ensemble

This local group of musicians specializes in the big band sound and jazz standards. They meet Tuesdays at 7:30 - 9:00 pm at Marinette High School. Contact Cindy Bailey: M-133, (715) 735-4301 or Tom Polkinghorne: (715) 923-5211.

The Fishing Club

For those who love to fish. Contact John Christopherson: M-207, 715-735-4327

Gamers Club

Computer electronics and gaming. "We are't just about gaming, we are all about gaming..." Got an idea for an event? We wanna hear it! Contact Jennifer Hass: M-126, (715) 735-4303.

Gay/Straight Alliance

This group works on issues relevant to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered communities. Contact Professor Amy Reddinger: L-115, (715) 735-4321 or Professor Jane Oitzinger: L-114, (715) 735-4321.

International Connections

Students with the YFU program give you an excellent opportunity to learn about other countries and cultures. Monthly potlucks are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6 pm in the cafeteria. Bring a dish to pass and table service. Field trips are also planned. Host families and volunteer tutors are needed to help International students with English. Intramural Sports

Intramural sports are offered to meet current student interst and may include flag football, ping-pong, basketball, volleyball, softball, broomball and pool. Watch for sign-ups in the Main lobby or contact the Athletic Director George Hayes: F-133, (715) 735-4325.

"Live United" United Way Student Club

This is a community service based club that combines fun activities and community service projects. They mainly help elderly and disabled people in our community in various ways such as moving, yard work, snow shoveling, etc. Some of the fun activities United Way student members can expect are free pizza parties, road trips, cookouts, movie nights, etc. Contact Mary Voyles: M-126, (715) 735-4353.

The Local Band Coalition

For those interested in playing in local bands, contact music professor David Giebler : T-135, 715-735-4316.

N.E.W. Concert Band

The NorthEast Wisconsin Band is made up of community members and university students. You can earn credit for participation by registering for MUS 071 in Student Services. The group meets weekly on Mondays at Coleman High School and has one performance each semester. Contact Cindy Bailey: M-133, (715) 735-4301.

Northern Lights Arts Journal

Published in the spring, this collection of student and faculty poetry, essays, stories and artwork is a prestigious way to see your name in lights: Northern Lights. Watch for more information about submitting your work for consideration by the Northern Lights board spring semester. For information contact Professor Amy Reddinger: L-115, (715) 735-4321.

Phi Theta Kappa

This honor’s fraternity plans activities throughout the year. Participation is through invitation only, based on evidence of high scholarly achievement. For more information, contact Professor Jennifer Flatt : L-117, (715) 735-4332.

Psychology Club

For students who are interested in careers in psychology and counseling, contact Professor Crystal Hendrick : M-112, (715) 735-4319.

Science and Computer Club

With the ever-growing area of scientific knowledge, this is an organization that is sure to be a benefit if you are planning to major in a science. Get together with other science majors and help prepare yourself with all the latest information in this area. Contact Professor Keith West: F-107, 735-4352.

Stateline Voyagers

This is an outdoor club dedicated to hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking or whatever gets us outside. Voyagers also combine forces with the local biking club Spokes and Folks for great rides including the Menominee River Century held on the last Sunday of June each year. Student Ambassadors

UW-Marinette Student Ambassadors represent the campus to the community. They lead campus tours for high school students during Preview Days and help with orientation and graduation. They also sponsor blood drives on campus. In the past Student Ambassadors have helped during the Christmas season with the Salvation Army and have participated in local parades. Student Ambassadors meet every other Friday during universal lunch hour. This is a great organization for community service and public relations experience. Student Government

This organization is responsible for the distribution of student segregated fees on the UW-Marinette campus. Student Senators are elected by the student body and serve on a variety of campus governing committees as well as the Student Governance Council for the state of Wisconsin and the United Council. Meetings are held every Wednesday during universal lunch hour. Interested persons can contact Jennifer Hass: M-126, (715) 735-4303.

Theatre on the Bay and Children's Theatre

Theatre on the Bay and the Children's Theatre offers opportunities to UW-Marinette thespians in productions year-round. Watch for audition announcements. Students can work on-stage and back-stage alongside professional and community actors and technicians. Contact Simon Provan: T-136, (715) 735-4314.

West Shore Chorale and Bay Shore Orchestra

The choir and orchestra consists of university students and community members. Students may take this course for credit as MUS 072. The group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 pm in T-117 of the Fine Arts Building. There is one or two performances each semester. Contact Professor David Giebler: T-135, (715) 735-4316.

Writers’ Club

Network with other writers and writers’ groups for Poetry Month in April. The Manifest and Northern Lights are opportunities for you to publicize your works. Contact Professor Amy Reddinger: L-115, (715) 735-4321.
