Forever Plaid Opens July 1 at Theatre on the Bay
June 24, 2006
Sponsored by ABC Printers Apparel and Promotions, Theatre on the Bay will present "Forever Plaid" July 1 - 3 and 8 - 11 at UW-Marinette’s Herbert L. Williams Theatre with a 7:30 pm curtain time.
One of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory, this wondrously warm and entertaining revue by Stuart Ross and James Raitt centers on four young, enthusiastic male singers killed in a car crash in the 1960’s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.
Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the '50s and ‘60’s such as “Catch a Falling Star,” “Moments to Remember,” and “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.”
Providing the evening of laughter and memories is the melodious, yet quirky quartet of Jason Larche as Smudge, Casey Mines as Sparky, Dave Rickaby as Frankie and Shane Johnson as Jinx.
Larche, who just finished directing the successful "Disney’s Beauty and the Beast" for the UW-Marinette Children’s Theatre, has taken lead roles in many TOB productions including the role of Tevye in last summer’s "Fiddler on the Roof." He will also be seen as Tito Merelli, the tenor in the upcoming TOB production of "Lend Me a Tenor" at the end of the month.
Casey Mines is a UW-Marinette alum and senior at UW-Oshkosh majoring in International Relations. He has just finished his 17th production as Gaston in "Disney’s Beauty and the Beast." Last summer he was in TOB’s "Smoke on the Mountain."
Dave Rickaby made his TOB debut in the 2003 production of "Guys and Dolls" in the role of Nathan Detroit. Last summer he was Perchick in "Fiddler on the Roof" and cousin Reuben in "Smoke on the Mountain."
Shane Johnson was Oliver Twist in the 1990 TOB production of "Oliver." He also appeared in "Antigone" and "Anything Goes." Johnson is also a member of the West Shore Chorale.
"Forever Plaid" is directed by Dr. Doug Larche with vocal music direction by Jay Jensen, instrumental music direction by David Giebler, choreography by Jason Larche, and lighting and sound design by Philip Smith.
Tickets are $10 and $12 for reserved seating. Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 715-735-4313.
