Interim Chancellor for UW Colleges Named
August 24, 2004

Margaret Cleek has been named interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges. She heads an administrative transition team put in place following the departure of former Chancellor William Messner, who resigned to accept the presidency of Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Cleek has served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the UW Colleges since 2000. Prior to that position, she was the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs for five years. She has also taught at UW-Washington County in West Bend and has been an administrator at UW-Waukesha. She earned her B.A. at the University of Illinois-Chicago and her M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

As part of the administrative transition team, Gregory Lampe has been appointed as interim vice chancellor for academic affairs. He has been associate vice chancellor since 2000. Prior to his administrative duties, he was an associate professor in communication and theatre arts at UW-Rock County in Janesville. Lampe earned his B.S. at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, his M.A. at Northern Illinois University and his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The University of Wisconsin Colleges, part of the UW System, is a network of 13 freshman/sophomore campuses located throughout Wisconsin. Each campus offers a general education transfer curriculum for a bachelor's degree, professional studies and an Associate of Arts and Science degree.

New Members Join UW-Marinette Foundation Board
August 24, 2004

The UW-Marinette Foundation has announced the election of three new board members at the quarterly meeting.

Serving four-year terms on the 14-member board are Perry Carlson, Marinette, The Stephenson National Bank & Trust; Carolyn McGuire, Marinette, Broadway Real Estate; and Jennifer Short, Menominee, Wisconsin Public Service.

Other board members include President Jim Morrison, Menominee; Vice President David Maguire, Marinette; Treasurer Brad Walters, Marinette; Board of Visitors Margaret Rhude, Marinette; Time Ascher, marinette; Dr. Bruce Barrette, Peshtigo; Tony Furton, Menominee; Scott Gerhartz, Marinette; Gary Nadolny, Marinette; ex officio George Bousley, Niagara; and ex officio Dean Paula Langteau, Marinette.

Incorporated in 1974, the Foundtion is an independent, non-profit organization that exists for the purpose of raising, investing and distributing funds for the benefit of UW-Marinette. Alumni, community members, faculty, staff, businesses, industry, philanthropic foundations, and friends have contributed many gifts to the campus Foundation. Student scholarships, two-way video classroom furnishings, faculty multi-media computers, TOb backstage renovations, and the campus entrance sign are a few of the ways that gifts from individuals and businesses have helped students and enhanced the campus.

"The generosity of our donors has also brought benefits to themselves," said Executive Director Connie Parkovich. "They receive a sense of satisfaction, a lasting legacy, a stake in community betterment, and memorials in honor of family members. It is this spirit of giving that has made a difference in our campus. They are menand women willing to give of themselves for the benefit of UW-Marinette and its students, and ultimately, for the benefit of our community and our state."
