INTERLIBRARY LOAN

If you need an item that is not available in the UW Marinette Library or in electronic format there are a number of ways to retrieve it. These services are available to the students and personnel of the UW Colleges.

Traditional Interlibrary Loan

Make a request for an item at the circulation/reference desk. You will be asked to complete a form that will allow the librarians to conduct an efficient search for the item.

Electronic Interlibrary Loan: Universal Borrowing

You may request a renewal of an item you borrowed by going to the section Items Currently Checked Out and placing a check mark in the renewal column and then clicking the Renew Items box at the bottom of the screen. Most libraries allow one renewal per item. Check back on the item to see if the lending library allowed the renewal. If your request was approved the new assigned due date will appear.
  6. If you do not locate the item you want in the UW System, you may place your request via ILLiad, a nationwide interlibrary loan system.
ILLiad - (Nation-wide Electronic Interlibrary Loan)

ILLiad is the electronic system you can use to request an item, including journal articles, from other libraries across the nation. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database. It is a service for faculty, staff and students of UW-Marinette. With ILLiad you can do the following online:

  • Request materials
  • Edit your requests and track their status
  • View a history of all your requests
  • Request renewals
  • View, print, or download electronically delivered items
  • Review your personal information
When should you use ILLiad?

Before making a request for an item, always check the Colleges Online Library Catalog to see if we already own the item or if you can borrow it through Universal Borrowing. If we own the item, you can save valuable time.

For journal articles, go to the Library Electronic Resources and Online Databases home page to see if the article is available in full text. Choose either the full text e-journals link or the citation linker before submitting your request through ILLiad.

Procedures for Requesting Materials:
  1. Login to ILLiad.
    • Enter your 10 digit UW Colleges Student ID number (ISO number).
    • Enter your last name (must be lower case).
    • Select your campus: Marinette
    • Click the Logon to ILLiad button
  2. Choose either Request a Book, Cd, or Video or, for journal articles, Request a Photocopy.
  3. Complete the sections pertinent to the type of material being requested.

  5. Include the source of the citations whenever possible. (For example: Academic Search Elite)
  6. Please include the ISSN number (International Standard Serial Number) for journals. The ISSN number is not mandatory, but it is useful for speedy processing.
  7. When you are finished entering the data, at the bottom of the screen, click on Submit Request.

If you are having trouble logging in, please contact Library staff at uwmnt.lib@uwc.edu or (715) 735-4306 or see the ILLiad FAQ.

Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

By choosing to log in to ILLiad, the user accepts the responsibility for observing copyright law.
