General Description of the Degree Program

The Collaborative Degree Program (CDP) is designed for the adult student who wants to complete a University of Wisconsin Bachelor's Degree in General Studies.

Upper level courses will be offered beginning in Fall, 2002 at UW-Marinette. These evening courses are offered via fully interactive two-way video and audio.

Why General Studies?

General Studies is an interdisciplinary major that brings together courses from many different fields within the liberal arts. Through exposure to a wide variety of subjects, you build a base of knowledge and core of skills that serve many careers. General Studies will help you - a skilled professional - become a more complete, educated citizen of the world.

What can the General Studies major do for you?

The General Studies major allows you to develop skills and abilities required in many profesional fields.

  • Communication - Improve interpersonal skills. Enhance your ability to organize and expess ideas clearly and appropriately. Master standard use of written and oral communication. Enhance your ability to listen, observe, interpret, and understand others.
  • Technology - While learning, gain first-hand experience in using modern information technology, such as computers, video conferencing, electronic mail, and the Internet.
  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving - Enhance your ability to see and creatively use connections within the world. Identify and understand the elements of a task, problem, or conflict in order to bring resolution. Solve a wide variety of complex puzzles and problems. Better understand systems, recognize patterns, and evaluate outcomes. Work effectively and creatively, either individually or in diverse groups or teams.
  • Knowledge - Acquire knowledge about contemporary issues. Master basic facts, concepts, and literature on numerous subjects. Expand awareness of diverse cultures, issues, and ideas. Learn creatively from practice and experience. Learn about career opportunities.
  • Citizenship - Strive to create a better world through self-action. Understand the interconnectedness of the world. Nurture and empower others to increase the prosperity of the community.
  • Self-Development - Assess personal strengths, weaknesses, and potential for continued responsibility for your decisions and their results.
  • Lifelong Learning - Realize the importance of lifelong learning in your continual pursuit of personal and professional success.
