College Prep Session offered at UW-Marinette
July 31, 2012
 
Seats are still open for the free two-day "College Prep" session offered by UW-Marinette August 7 and 8 from 9 am to 11:30 am at the campus.
 
This program is for high school juniors interested in attending any college or university. Participants will learn how to identify the right college; complete college applications (including personal assessments, college essays and letters of recommendation); navigate the financial aid process; and search for college scholarships.

This program is developed by Great Lakes as part of the College Access Challenge Grant Program and made possible by the Wisconsin Department of Administration. It is being offered at UW-Marinette in cooperation with College Counts! precollege programs under the direction of Tina Oman, UW-Marinette Student Services Coordinator.

MAAC ATTACK Reception Well Attended
July 24, 2012

The annual “MAAC Attack” art exhibit reception at the UW-Marinette art gallery Thursday, July 19 from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm was well attended by MAAC members and the general public. Present in the gallery preceding the opening of Theater on the Bay’s summer musical, “Into the Woods” and interacting with theater goers was Ernie Pleger, Pat Johnson, Mary Costantino, Myra Christophersen, Carol Whitton, Germaine Vincent, Susan Perrine and daughter  Katie, Herb and Laurel Buyarski, Ginne Cappaert, Chris Berden and Professor James LaMalfa, UW gallery curator.
Germaine Vincent added five of her hand painted wooden plates done in Norwegian Rosemaling on Friday, July 20  to the glass display case in the gallery. The exhibit will continue until the August 31. Vincent’s art will also be displayed in the UW-Marinette art gallery during February 2013.
Five of Sandy Trottier’s art metal pieces, also in the display case, have been sold to date.
MAAC member Chris Berden is one of the designers for the play, which features three props he made: Milky White, a full sized cow on wheels, a Giant’s stolen singing harp and a radio controlled chicken which delights audiences as it whizzes around the stage.

Fancy Dresses Sought by Theatre on the Bay
July 11, 2012

Theatre on the Bay director Rebecca Stone Thornberry has put out a call for old prom, bridesmaids or other fancy dresses to be used for costumes for the upcoming musical "Into the Woods" by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

"All dress donations are welcome," says Stone Thornberry,  "but we especially need sizes 12 and up. They can either be dropped off at UW-Marinette in the office of University Relations or contact Maureen Frawley by email at maureen.frawley@uwc.edu or call 715-735-4310 and arrangements for pickup can be made.

"Into the Woods" will run July 19-22 and 26-29 with curtain times at 7:30 pm Thursdays– Saturdays and 2:00 pm Sundays. Tickets are $14 and $10 on sale at Angelis in Marinette and Menominee and at the TOB box office one hour before curtain.

TOB Concessions Available
July 5, 2012

Concessions are still available for Thursday and Sunday of the first weekend of Theatre on the Bay's upcoming summer musical "Into the Woods" on July 19-22. Friday and Saturday of the first weekend and the second weekend, July 26-29, have been spoken for. Curtain time is 7:30 pm on Thursday-Saturday and 2:00 pm on Sunday.

Civic groups and organizations can raise money for their projects by providing home-baked cookies and bars for audiences at theatre intermissions. All money raised goes to the organization providing the refreshments.

Summer of Art in the Twin Cities

With the installation of the Menominee Area Arts Council (MAAC) summer exhibit at the University of Wisconsin-Marinette’s Art Gallery, there are now five venues in the twin cities displaying fine art. MAAC is showing artworks at the Menominee City Hall gallery in the halls, both the Spies and Stephenson Libraries are showing art and the Farmers & Merchant and Trust exhibit,displaying art that has historical themes, opened Monday, July 2.          
The UW Art Gallery features the work of twenty seven MAAC members in all media, including watercolor and oil painting, acrylic, drawings, digital and silver gel photography and seventeen pieces of handmade jewelry, which is displayed in the glass case, gallery center. All of the artwork for sale is so marked. Interested purchasers should contact the artist.       
The MAAC artists with works in the UW-Marinette art gallery include Barbara Kane Anderson, Lauri Beldo, Kim Bellisle, Christopher Berden, Betsy Bradley, Herb Buyarski, Laurel Buyarski, Ginnie Caeppaert, Myra Christophersen, Mary Costantino, Pat Couvillion, Pete Entringer, Nancy Gehrke, Harry Groulx, Katie Harpt, Margaret Hitch, Pat Johnson, James LaMalfa, Susan Perrine, Katie Perrine, Clarice Pilot, Ernie Pleger, Jan Ross-Deetjen, Sandy Trottier, Pat Pottraz, Ardyce Wells, Carol Whitton.
“This is by any measure,” said Art Gallery curator professor James LaMalfa, “the largest MAAC exhibit we have installed to date. There is plenty of variety in terms of artistic style, everything from minimalist color field painting, to highly detailed watercolors. We have two steel sculptures on display and ceramic sculptured stoneware pottery, plus some high quality handmade jewelry."
The official reception for the MAAC exhibit is scheduled for the opening night of TOB’s production of “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim, Thursday July 19 at 6 pm until the play begins at 7:30 pm. The exhibit will run through August 31. Gallery hours are 8 am until 5 pm daily, and closed weekends except during TOB performances.
